The appearance of teeth, especially the front teeth, changes significantly depending on the lighting conditions.

When synthetic materials are used for dental fillings, this is taken into account to ensure the newly filled teeth resemble the surrounding teeth as closely as possible.

At TandCity in Malmö, we work with the latest technology and synthetic fillings. In cases where the majority of the chewing surface must be restored or when the patient has teeth grinding issues, we recommend porcelain fillings.

These last longer and wear down more slowly. The procedure is similar to that used for crowns, but more of the natural tooth is preserved.

We only use approved dental filling materials

We do not use metal fillings (amalgam) at TandCity. Since these alloys contain mercury, they are harmful to the human brain and nervous system in their free form. The risk is low when used in the oral cavity because the amount of mercury released into the oral cavity through corrosion is very low.

However, studies have shown that the amount of mercury measured in nature is increasing due to the increased use of mercury in society, and there is more mercury in the food we eat. This, combined with aesthetic reasons and consideration for the amount of tooth substance that must be removed when using metal fillings, means that we do not use this type of dental filling.

Research is still ongoing regarding the risks of amalgam fillings. We know that continuous corrosion occurs when one has an amalgam filling. The filling expands slowly until the surrounding tooth parts develop fractures.

We therefore recommend that our patients who may have amalgam fillings replace them with composite or porcelain fillings before fractures occur. The fact that the teeth also become more aesthetically pleasing is an added benefit.
