Teeth whitening at home or at TandCity

With professional teeth whitening, your teeth become visibly brighter. The treatment can be done at home or directly with us at TandCity in Malmö.

Everyone is born with their own individual shade of tooth enamel. This is genetically determined and partly affects the teeth as they erupt. The biggest issue, however, is discoloration that occurs when teeth are exposed to substances that have a staining effect. Various foods and drinks, as well as smoking, can also cause discoloration.

Plaque and tartar can be removed during a dental cleaning, but some of the discoloration may have penetrated the enamel and will not disappear with a simple cleaning. Since the late 1980s, various teeth-whitening methods have been used in clinical dentistry to achieve the best possible tooth shade.

At TandCity in Malmö, we offer two different whitening methods: at-home whitening or in-clinic teeth whitening. We use Opalescence and Philips Zoom, which are among the largest and best-known brands of whitening products.

In-clinic teeth whitening

Whiter teeth in just 90 minutes! In-clinic whitening is carried out in a significantly shorter time using a high-concentration whitening gel. To enhance the effect, a specially developed LED lamp is also used.

A protective material is applied to the gums and a concentrated whitening agent is applied to the teeth, which is left to work on the tooth surface for 15 minutes. The gel is then suctioned off and a new layer is applied. The procedure is repeated 4 times.

It is common for the teeth to become somewhat sensitive to cold during the first few weeks after treatment. We recommend that our patients use a toothpaste for sensitive teeth during this time. We also recommend having a general dental check-up before the treatment.

There may be certain risks in carrying out teeth whitening in cases where the teeth are affected by cavities or where there is gum inflammation. This can lead to more serious problems.

FAQ before booking a dental appointment

Teeth whitening

How long teeth whitening lasts varies greatly and depends on several factors. The factors that determine how long a whitening result lasts before the teeth darken again include smoking, wine, coffee, tea, soft drinks, and essentially all coloured foods. Genetics is also a factor—some tooth types attract pigments more easily than others. During the whitening period and for a few days afterwards, it is advisable to avoid, for example, wine, coffee and snus to prevent discoloration, as the enamel is more prone to staining shortly after whitening. After a couple of days, you can return to normal. Book a free consultation with our dental hygienist to learn more about whitening and what is best for you.

At TandCity, we offer two types of teeth whitening. The most common method is in-clinic whitening, which means whitening at our clinic. The treatment takes approximately 90 minutes and is carried out by our dental hygienist, who is an expert in in-clinic whitening. You get whiter teeth immediately! This also includes custom-made whitening trays that we produce so you can refresh your smile from time to time at home. Whitening gel for home use is also included. In-clinic whitening costs SEK 5,500.

The other option is at-home whitening. You begin with a visit to our dental hygienist, who takes impressions and produces whitening trays. You also receive whitening gel to whiten your teeth at home. Most often, you whiten overnight for at least 4 hours, for a few days, until the desired shade is achieved. At-home whitening costs SEK 3,500.

You can always buy more whitening gel from us at the clinic when the gel runs out.

A dental check-up is always carried out before whitening begins to determine whether whitening is right for you!

There are many different teeth-whitening brands. After testing a number of different manufacturers, we have concluded that the best overall—both in terms of results and gentleness on the teeth—is Philips ZOOM, a world-leading provider of in-clinic whitening. We use Opalescence for at-home whitening, as they are the best for this.

The most important thing for us is that teeth whitening is safe to use and should be supported by underlying studies. We never use teeth whitening products that have not been on the market for a long time and for which there are not sufficient studies supporting their safety.
